SunClean™ self-cleaning glass is a coated glass product with photocatalytic and hydrophilic properties that combine to result in windows that are easier to clean. The durable, transparent coating on SunClean self-cleaning glass is applied to hot glass during the formation process making it an integral part of the outer glass surface. After a few days of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun, the coating becomes energized and provides photocatalytic and hydrophilic properties . Photocatalytic
 In a photocatalytic process, ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun energizes the SunClean glass coating to help slowly break down and loosen organic dirt. Since UV light is abundant even on cloudy days or in shaded areas, this process works non-stop throughout the day
Hydrophilic
 The coating's hydrophilic property makes water droplets spread out, or sheet, across the surface of the glass. Because of this, when rain or a light spray of water hits the window, the water helps to more effectively rinse away loosened dirt. This sheeting action, which works throughout the day and night, helps the window dry quickly with minimal spotting and streaking.
SunClean self-cleaning glass can be provided in standard and energy-saving low-E windows. SunClean glass is available to makers of wood, vinyl and aluminum windows serving the new construction and remodeling market. This allows SunClean glass to be one of the exciting new options available to consumers in the spring 2002 construction season.

Does it work immediately after being installed?
Depending on exposure, it may take a few days for the glass to energize.
Will windows that have this glass ever have to be washed again?
Yes, but not in the same way you are accustomed to washing your windows. Your windows will be easier to clean. Either let mother nature do it for you or occasionally wash your windows with a light spray of water. Of course, the interior surface will need to be cleaned like any other window glass.
What does it look like? Does it have a color?
From the exterior, windows with SunClean glass appear brighter. From inside, they look the same.
How long will the self-cleaning qualities last?
Like other PPG coated products, SunClean glass comes with a 10-year warranty to its immediate customers. We believe the coating is extremely durable. |
